Joshua will discuss his vision for the Wisconsin Apprenticeship program and its enduring benefits to employers, educators, the state's skilled labor force. Josh will touch on how interested employers can hire registered apprentices and youth apprentices and sponsor a program of their own, and the Bureau's efforts underway to update and improve the Youth Apprenticeship (YA) curriculum, statewide, so it is more relevant to registered apprenticeship, the industry and the participants. Josh will also talk about some of the challenges facing Wisconsin Apprenticeship, including the complications brought on by  COVID-19 and ongoing work to make the registered and youth apprenticeship programs more cohesive.

Meet our speaker, Josh Johnson: Joshua Johnson serves as the Director of the Wisconsin Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards, the regulatory body which oversees the state's apprenticeship system, including Registered Apprenticeship, Youth Apprenticeship and certified pre-apprenticeship. Josh's career in apprenticeship began as a registered apprentice himself, with the construction craft laborers in Milwaukee. After completing his apprenticeship program and working as a journeyworker laborer, Josh's career segued into Wisconsin civil service. There, he worked with a number of workforce development programs before landing with the Bureau as an apprenticeship field representative and rising in the ranks to section chief and then director.
